Hans Indigo Spencer
education program
Hans Indigo Spencer's composing career stretches over twenty
years of supporting stories for theater directors, filmmakers,
animators, and choreographers. He brings his full breadth
of experience as a performing jazz musician, improviser, and
educator to every project.
Educated in classical composition at Oberlin Conservatory
and earning a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from the New
England Conservatory, Hans has built a reputation for being
a world-class collaborator in any genre. Regularly performing
at Improv Boston theater, he cut his teeth providing real-time
live underscoring for New England's best improvising actors.
Through his years in Boston, he was also developing an audience
for his twelve-piece band, the Indigo Invention Group, which
incorporated imaginative stories into big-band jazz. All the
while, he worked as a freelance saxophonist, playing with
the top musicians in Boston. He currently devotes all of his
creative energy to media composing now that he and his family
have settled in the beautiful coastal city of Portland, Maine.
