Violist Caitlin Lynch has performed across the globe in collaboration with artists from Itzhak Perlman to Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. She is violist of the Aeolus String Quartet, and violist and co-Artistic Director of the Grammy-nominated conductorless chamber orchestra A Far Cry. Ms. Lynch’s performances as a chamber and orchestral musician, soloist with orchestra, and recitalist have spanned fourteen countries across five continents – from CarnegieHall to the Sydney Opera House to the United Nations – and include appearances with members of the Cleveland, Guarneri, Juilliard, Takács, and Tokyo String Quartets.
Passionate about collaborations with other art forms, Ms. Lynch enjoys performing with dancers (Mark Morris Dance Group, Wendy Whelan), artists from other musical genres (Bjork, The National), and on tv and film (PBS Great Performances: Now Hear This, Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!). Festival appearances include performances at the Caramoor, Methow Valley, Mozaic, Perlman Music Program, Ravinia, and Yellow Barn Music Festivals. Her performances frequently appear on Performance Today, NPR, and WQXR, and her curatorial work has been featured on American Public Media.
A proponent of music being written today, Ms. Lynch has collaborated closely with composers Caroline Shaw, JuantioBecenti, Meredith Monk, Shelley Washington, and more. She performed on the Experiential Orchestra’s Grammy Awardwinning album featuring Dame Ethel Smyth’s The Prison. Passionate about education, she frequently gives masterclasses around the country and has served as chamber music faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts Chamber Music Camp and for Perlman Music Program residencies in Tel Aviv, Israel and Sarasota, Florida. Ms. Lynch is the founder and Artistic Director of Project Chamber Music: Willamette Valley, a nonprofit organization that supports equity in classical music by removing the barrier of cost for private instrumental lessons for public school students in the Willamette Valley.
Ms. Lynch is a graduate of The Juilliard School and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she was the inaugural Artist in Residence at Cleveland’s Judson Manor senior living community, an intergenerational relationship that continues today and has been celebrated by CBS and NBC News, The Plain Dealer, and The New York Times.
Recent and upcoming highlights include performances for Carnegie Hall Citywide, the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center, and Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series with the Aeolus Quartet, and, with A Far Cry, the Kennedy Center and an Artist Residency at NYC’s Kaufman Music Center. Ms. Lynch performs on an 18th century viola made by English luthier William Forster, and thanks to the generosity of the Five Partners Foundation, a 2020 viola by Samuel Zygmuntowicz.
